You are getting a lot of air time on my blog these days.  But you guys are so cool I can’t help it!  I loved the save the dates that you guys sent out!  I loved them so much they got their own photo shoot.

You guys are a great example of what it looks like to carry a theme through.  Nice work!

When Karey first called me to tell me that you were looking for a photographer I was excited.  I would finally get to meet this “Josh & Kristin” that I had heard so much about.  I thought you must be OK if you were such good friends with Karey.  But I had no idea just how much I would like you both!

I loved talking with you guys about all of the places you’ve traveled together (Kristin, you’re smart to be marrying a pilot!  I gotta get me one of those  And kudos, Josh, on your sweet proposal up in Oregon.  What girl doesn’t want to be whisked away to a beautiful place and have the man she loves ask her to marry him?

So when you guys told me about your idea for a vintage travel themed wedding, I swooned a little.  OK… a lot.  And when you told me you were thinking about doing a vintage themed engagement shoot… oh my gosh I think I fell in love a little bit.  I couldn’t wait to do your engagement shoot!

I’m in love with this shoot!  I love how there are so many stories that can be told from these photos.  I couldn’t believe that the guy at Planes of Fame let us do pretty much whatever we wanted!  Even getting in one!  The planes were amazing and it was fun to hear some of the history.  Kristin, I loved how you pulled together the whole look with the vintage suitcases and gloves and everything.  You are adorable!

Oooh, Kristin!  Look at those legs!  And Josh, you’re lookin’ pretty dapper in that uniform of yours.

Work it.

There’s something I love about the emotion in these.  It’s like you’re saying goodbye before a long trip.

I’ll get to the other half of our shoot in the next post. I just thought this part deserved a post all its own.

Meet Desiree and Jeremiah.

They’re awesome.

I’ve known Des since she was in 7th grade.  I was her youth leader.  She’s always been amazing.  She went to Wheaton College in Illinois.  While she was in college she went to some sort of leadership conference where she met a guy named Jeremy.  Her impersonation of him goes like this: “Hi, I’m Jeremy.  I’m gonna own a Chick-fil-a some day.”

Fast forward 9 or 10 years.  Desiree moved back to California and got a job working with Young Life, pouring into the lives of young people in the heart of Hollywood.  Now she heads up Young Life in that area.  She has a bunch of volunteers that work with her ministering to students in the Hollywood area.

One of those volunteers is Jeremiah (formerly known as Jeremy).  Jeremiah opened a Chick-fil-a in Florida then decided to move to California to open the first Chick-fil-a in Los Angeles, by USC (since then he has opened another Chick-fil-a in Hollywood)  He wanted to find a place to serve young people in the name of Jesus so he decided to Volunteer with the Young Life in his area.

They remembered meeting each other years before.  They served alongside each other for a while, but Desiree had a rule that she wouldn’t date any of her leaders.  Well…. obviously she broke that rule.  They’re getting married next weekend and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding.  This one’s going to be an extra special one for me.

We did their engagement shoot in and around the neighborhood where they live, work, and serve.

Oh, my hotness!

I can’t wait for next weekend!!!!!!

Spokane is beautiful!  I worked at a camp in the Seattle area for a couple of summers and loved it.  I wanted to live there.  Kinda.  But it rains SO much!  Everyone told me that Spokane was totally different.  They don’t get near as much rain as Seattle.  But when I arrived in Spokane for Nicki & Josh’s wedding I thought, “This is the Washington I remember!”  Cool, green and drizzly!

Nicki met Josh when she was in high school.  She thought he was really cute, but, alas, he had a girlfriend.  Josh was a really close friend of Nicki’s cousins so she saw him many times over the years.  Every time, she thought, “There’s that cute guy!”  But every time… he had a girlfriend.  A couple of years ago Nicki saw Josh again at her cousin’s party.  But this time he was single!  They started dating and the rest is history.  Nicki got accepted to medical school and moved to Denver last fall.  Josh moved there a few months later to be near her.  Nicki grew up in Spokane so decided that they would have their wedding there.  What a great weekend!  There’s so much to share, so there will be several posts!

Friday morning was the rehearsal at Beacon Hill.  We had a little pre-wedding shoot scheduled for later that day, but as I scoped out the property for the next day, and I saw what Nicki was wearing, I thought that we needed to grab a few shots in this little wooded area.  She they indulged me!

Now, I have done my fair share of internet dating myself.  So the first bit of advice I give people embarking on this journey is to put up good photos.  You’d be shocked at how many lame profile photos I’ve seen!  ”Yeah, that’s a really cool photo of you and General Sherman.  Wait…. is that little speck at the bottom you?”

Lynn was smart.  I met her last year when she asked me to do some headshots for her online profile.

We had a great time and I ended up visiting with her and her daughter, who is a very talented budding photographer herself.  Imagine my delight when late one night I received an email from her that said, “Well, it worked!  I met someone and we just got engaged!  I’d like to talk with you about photographing our wedding!”

These two cracked me up!  They are SO in love!  Like crazy mad about each other.  Like can’t keep their hands off of each other in love.  They should bottle that.  I want me some of that!  I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next month!

But it’s a perfect day to post these images.  About a month ago Elyse and Robert and I were scheduled to do their engagement shoot.  But it was also scheduled to rain quite a bit that weekend.  Robert is in the Coast Guard and lives up in the bay area, and since his time off is very limited we couldn’t really reschedule.  Elyse was excited about the rain and said she would bring her umbrellas.  I was excited about the umbrellas too, but was a little concerned about not being able to keep my camera dry!  Anything to get the shot, right!?!  We made it happen.

Elyse and Robert love to go out to Sushi and to the movies so we met at Kura Sushi, one of their favorite restaurants.  It was raining pretty hard so we were glad to be inside.  Then the rain let up to a light mist as we headed down the street to the Lido Theater in Newport.  We had so much fun playing with umbrellas and the rain.

And I love what we captured.  I don’t know if it’s the moody rainy look, or the timelessness, or this just the awesomeness of this couple!  Maybe it’s knowing everything we went through to get these!  But I do know know that I CAN’T WAIT for their wedding in March!  It is going to be stellar!

All of these make me happy, but this one made me sigh…….. hhhmmmmmm.

There is just something I LOVE about the feel of this one.

On a side note…. I actually went back and saw It’s a Wonderful Life here a few days before Christmas.  So fun!  I hope they do it next year.  I think I want to start a new Christmas tradition.

On a jog one morning I came across this building and just about burst with excitement!  I knew I had to bring someone here to take photos.  When I knew that I was going to meet up with Todd and Alisa in Downtown Fullerton, they said they were game for anything, so we went on over to the little gem I had found.

I’m so excited for their wedding next weekend, which is also in the Fullerton/Brea area (I have been very spoiled lately!).  Alisa found a super cool place for us to take photos so stay tuned for that!  We are all in for a treat!
